Welcome to Hoke County, where gracious living meets a great location for business. In 2020, the county's population topped 52,000, with 17,799 households, and 12,300 families residing in the county. Hoke continues to be one of the fastest-growing counties in the state.
Hoke County is part of the Fayetteville metropolitan statistical area and is home to part of the Fort Bragg military reservation, which plays a large role in the county's significant population growth. Raeford is located in central Hoke it is bordered to the northeast by Rockfish Creek, an east-flowing tributary of the Cape Fear River. U.S. Route 401 runs through the north and west sides of Raeford, leading east 22 miles to Fayetteville and southwest 20 miles to Laurinburg. This area is attractive to tourists as state parks provide both significant natural resource values and significant recreational values. Hoke County is also adjacent to the Village of Pinehurst, home to world-class golf courses.
North Carolina has long been home to a large population of active duty, guard, reserve, and veteran service members. In recognition of the state's rich military history, the Department of Public Instruction is pleased to recognize hundreds of schools as part of its Purple Star Award Designation initiative which was first launched in the 2019-20 school year. All fourteen schools in Hoke County have earned the Purple Star distinction. There are 2 Hospitals in Hoke County, North Carolina providing easy access to emergency and healthcare services.
